Marina Cervera Alonso de Medina (Spain) is a landscape architect, urban designer, educator, and professional leader whose career has successfully combined design practice, academic excellence, and international professional advocacy. Educated at the School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), she holds both a Degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and Urbanism.
Throughout her career, Marina has demonstrated a strong commitment to design innovation and landscape culture. Her early professional development was supported by prestigious scholarships and research grants, including awards from the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, the Fundació Caixa d’Arquitectes, the Centre de Recerca de Projectes de Paisatge (CRPP), and the international Villa Le Nôtre Residency Programme. These experiences helped shape her multidisciplinary approach to landscape architecture, urbanism, and public space design.
Her professional experience includes work with the internationally renowned Ateliers Jean Nouvel in Paris and the Centre for Research on Landscape Projects (CRPP) in Barcelona. Since 2003, she has led her own practice in Barcelona, delivering projects in landscape architecture, urban design, planning, and architecture. Her work is characterised by a sensitive integration of landscape, culture, and the public realm, promoting sustainable and people-oriented environments.
Alongside her private practice, Marina has played a key role in strengthening the institutional and cultural profile of landscape architecture in Catalonia and beyond. She has served as Executive Director of the Landscape Architecture Office of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) and as a member of the Executive Committee of the internationally acclaimed Barcelona International Biennial of Landscape Architecture, contributing to the promotion of landscape discourse, innovation, and professional exchange at an international scale.
A dedicated educator, Marina is an Adjunct Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where she teaches within the Master’s programmes in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. She has also lectured widely at conferences, workshops, and academic events around the world, sharing her expertise with students, researchers, and practitioners from diverse international backgrounds.
At the international level, Marina has been one of the most active contributors to IFLA Europe over the past two decades. Serving as Secretary General, Chair of Communications, and later as Chair of Professional Practice and Policy for the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), she has worked tirelessly to strengthen professional cooperation, policy development, and advocacy for landscape architecture worldwide. She has also contributed to landscape architecture education through her involvement in the IFLA Europe School Recognition Panel.
In recognition of her exceptional service to the profession, her leadership within IFLA and IFLA Europe, and her longstanding commitment to advancing landscape architecture across Europe and internationally, Marina Cervera Alonso de Medina was appointed an Honorary Member of IFLA Europe at the 2021 General Assembly in Granada.
Through her practice, teaching, and professional leadership, Marina has made a lasting contribution to the promotion of landscape architecture as a discipline that connects design excellence, environmental responsibility, and cultural identity.
