Lars Nyberg (Sweden) is a landscape architect, planner, and advisor who has devoted his career to the integration of landscape, cultural heritage, environmental planning, and sustainable regional development. Educated in both architecture and landscape planning, he holds a Master of Architecture from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and a Master of Science in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).
Over a professional career spanning more than four decades, Lars has worked across the public, private, and academic sectors. Since 1987, he has led his consultancy Marktidek HB, providing expertise in landscape architecture, cultural heritage, strategic planning, and sustainable spatial development. His work has focused on the relationship between landscapes, communities, and cultural environments, contributing to projects that balance environmental stewardship with social and economic development.
Lars held senior leadership positions within the County Administrative Board of Stockholm, serving as Director of Planning and Environment and later as Senior Advisor to the County Governor. In these roles, he played a key part in environmental policy, regional planning, cultural heritage management, and the long-term development of the Stockholm Archipelago and the Royal National City Park, one of Europe’s most significant urban landscape initiatives.
A strong advocate for public engagement and sustainable mobility, Lars currently serves as President of the Association of Archipelago Passengers, representing the interests of communities and transport users throughout the Stockholm Archipelago. He is also actively involved in the promotion of parks and landscape culture as Editor of LustgƄrden, the annual publication of the Swedish Society of Dendrology and Parks.
Throughout his career, Lars has been committed to strengthening the role of landscape architecture in planning and governance, championing the importance of cultural landscapes, ecological values, and public access to high-quality environments.
